For the keen walkers we have selected some beautiful walking itineraries. You can walk in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, passing white washed villages of the Alpujarras, hear natural streams flowing, and catch the scent of fresh herbs and flowers. You will encounter small farms, meeting a Spanish local with his mule and many things more that represent rural Spain.

High Sierra Nevada walk 

Walk 3: You explore the "cortijo" itinerary which leads you to the high mountains of the Sierra Nevada. At "Fuente Fria", which is a great resting place for having lunch, you will have magnificent views towards the mountains and the valley. This walk takes you to an altitude of about 2000 metres (8-9 hours).

Citrus groves (Lecrin Valley)

Walk 4: You can explore more of the Valle de Lecrin. Starting in Albuñuelas and following the GR-7 towards Saleres and Restabal (the old goat track). Walking through orange, lemon and almond groves, the track takes you to the village of Murchas. Getting to Murchas after about 3,5 hours you ascend the hills of Murchas and head for Nigüelas. In the villages you can enjoy the "mudejar" style build churches in the XVI century, (4-5 hours). 

Murchas Lecrin Valley 

Walk 1: This is a light walk, about 3-4 hours. From Nigüelas you stroll through farming land and take the GR-7, long distance path, in the direction of Murchas. Follow the track over the mountain of Murchas. From here you have some lovely views toward the valley. Continue the track until you get to the village of Murchas. This village was destroyed in the 19th century by an earthquake. Above the fountain there is a memorial. Via the Rio Torrente you walk uphill towards Acequias. Just outside the village is an old restored grain mill, the path passes the mill and takes you back to Nigüelas. In this village there is an old olive mill to be visited during the weekend.

Soportújar in de Alpujarras

Walk 2: From Cañar, you walk in the direction of Soportujar (la Alpujarras). Walking trough the middle of a beautiful gorge and over an old bridge, you continue your way towards Soportújar. In this white washed village, passing the church, the track leads you in the direction of Pampaneira. You turn uphill over narrow goat tracks and get to Pampaneira after about 2 hours. Arriving in Pampaneira you have several tapas bars in which you can enjoy a glass of wine with a free tapas. (4 hours)
